About Course
If your organization already holds ISO 27001 certification, you don’t need to build AI governance from the ground up. ISO 42001, the international standard for AI management systems, shares the same Annex SL structure as ISO 27001, which means your existing risk register, internal audit program, management review process, and Statement of Applicability can all be extended to cover AI, rather than duplicated into a separate system.
This course, built for security, compliance, and GRC teams, walks through exactly how that extension works, module by module, artifact by artifact. Instead of treating ISO 27001 ISO 42001 integration as two unrelated certifications, you’ll learn a practical, repeatable method for running one unified management system that satisfies both standards, reduces audit duplication, and scales cleanly as your organization’s use of AI grows.
What You’ll Learn
- Why ISO 42001 exists and exactly where it fits alongside ISO 27001
- How to inventory your existing ISMS artifacts and test which ones extend cleanly to ISO 42001 versus which need real rework
- The AI-specific risks your current risk methodology doesn’t catch – model drift, training data bias, performance degradation, hallucination risk, and unintended use
- How to assess data provenance, lineage, and third-party or foundation model risk
- How to define human oversight, transparency, and explainability controls for different risk tiers of AI use cases
- How to extend your Statement of Applicability and build one unified control library covering both standards
- How to run one integrated internal audit program and management review across ISO 27001 and ISO 42001
- How to choose between integrated certification and separate certificates — and the trade-offs of each
- How to monitor AI systems continuously post-certification, including model drift and shadow AI adoption
- How to build a repeatable process for bringing new AI use cases into your management system as it scales
Who Should Enroll
- Security, compliance, and GRC professionals whose organization already holds ISO 27001 certification, or is actively working toward it
- Compliance leads who need to scope an ISO 42001 initiative without duplicating existing ISMS effort
- GRC teams facing customer, regulatory, or internal pressure to demonstrate AI governance
- Risk and audit professionals responsible for extending internal audit and management review programs to cover AI systems
- Organizations building or deploying AI products, tools, or third-party AI integrations that need to be brought under formal governance
Note: This course assumes an existing or in-progress ISO 27001 program. If your organization is starting from zero on both standards, this course is not the right starting point.
